If you live in the North London area and you’re concerned about your skin, there’s a chance our expert team at The Private Skin Laser Clinic can help. We are located in the dermatology department of the Royal Free hospital and have many years of experience in providing safe and effective laser treatment for a large range of skin complaints.
If you’re reading this, you’ve probably just discovered your first facial thread vein and you’re wondering if the expert team here at our North London clinic can help? We can! Facial thread veins appear as tiny red streaks on the face, which are bright enough to resist being covered by subtle makeup and prominent enough to annoy us when we look in the mirror. We can remove them by exposing them to a laser, which will heat them out of existence.
From Dermatological Surgery, March 2016:
Enlarged pores is a common cosmetic problem affecting the face of male and female individuals. Potential factors that contribute to enlarged skin pores include excessive sebum, decreased elasticity around pores, and increased hair follicle volume.
Because various factors cause enlarged facial pores, it is important to identify the underlying causes to be able to select the appropriate treatment.
Treatment options include topical and oral treatments to reduce sebum production, light and laser treatments targeting sebaceous glands or hair follicles and intradermal botulinum toxin injections.

WASHINGTON, DC — An investigational anticholinergic topical gel is safe and effective for the treatment of axillary hyperhidrosis, according to results from a phase 2b study.
Sofpironium bromide (BBI-4000, Brickell Biotech) is one of several topical products currently being investigated in clinical trials, said David Pariser, MD, professor of dermatology at the Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk, who is founding president of the International Hyperhidrosis Society.
While everybody loves things that smell nice there’s good reason to avoid fragrance and perfumes in your skin care and makeup – especially if you have sensitive skin or conditions such as rosacea, eczema and acne.
Whether from synthetic or natural origin (including essential oils such as lavender and citrus ingredients too) fragrance is a skin irritant. They are sensitising and the most common cause of allergic reactions. Irritation and inflammation inhibit skins ability to heal and encourage collagen to break down leading to redness, rashes, wrinkles and seriously unhappy skin.
The effects are cumulative so may not show on the surface straight after applying if you have normal skin. However skin that’s already compromised by conditions like rosacea or sensitive post laser treatments, fragrance is bad news.
High concentrations of fragrance are now the norm in most skincare and many makeup products. So it can take quite a bit of time, research and reading labels to discover which ones are truly free from fragrance. Luckily we’ve done the hard work for you and recommend these brands to get you started.
These brand products are all fragrance free:

Our skin is the largest organ of the human body but it can also be one of the most neglected or vulnerable to damage. As well as being affected by genetics, your skin is prey to your lifestyle, environment, hormones, diet, age, and much more. This unique combination of factors means that you need a unique approach to finding the best skin treatments.
One of the reasons that The Private Skin Laser Clinic is in demand is that we’re based in the Dermatology department of the Royal Free Hospital in North London and staffed by a team of consultant dermatologists and laser clinicians. This enables us to combine a medical and cosmetic approach to the skin.
One of the problems that people frequently come to us about is facial thread veins. If you have them, you may feel that they are ageing your appearance or giving you an uneven complexion that makes your skin look less healthy than it could.
In this week’s blog, we’re talking all things facial thread veins, what causes them and how to get rid of them:
